Shaun Jurek
Hello and welcome. My name is Shaun Jurek and I am the bass player for the Mark Brandt Jazz Trio. I
have a bachelor's degree in music composition from Virginia Commonwealth University where I
graduated with honors in the spring of 2002. Since then I have been playing jazz guitar professionally
and teaching both bass and guitar at several locations in the Northern Virginia area.

When I was growing up I fell in love with the sounds and the feel of jazz guitarists like Charlie Christian,
Wes Montgomery, Joe Pass, George Benson, Jim Hall, and Pat Metheny. As I began to learn more
about jazz guitar and music in general, I became enamored with the sounds of bass players like Ron
Carter, Eddie Gomez, John Patitucci, and the great Niels-Henning Orsted Pederson.

After graduating from college I found that I had more time to devote to my love for the upright bass, so I
began to channel my energy in that direction while working as a jazz guitarist and teaching private
lessons on guitar. These days I offer music lessons on both guitar and bass.

Although I teach all styles of music, I hope that I might introduce more young musicians to the joy and the beauty of this American Art Form we call Jazz, along
with the wonderful benefits of being able to express yourself through this magical medium we call music. If you love music and especially jazz music, then I am
the teacher for you.

I hope to see you soon either at my next gig with the Mark Brandt Jazz Trio, or in private lessons as you begin your own exciting journey with this amazing
thing we call music!
